[Literature Library] Dietary carbohydrates and gestational diabetes mellitus

Special attention to type and amount of dietary carbohydrates is important in managing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) because of its impact on maternal glucose level. Recommendations have advised pregnant women with GDM to limit total intake or to select complex and low glycemic carbohydrates. This review article summarizes the role of dietary carbohydrates in treating and preventing GDM.
