Maternal human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) secretor status, birth mode and infant microbiota development

This study found there are differences in infant gut microbiota composition depending on the secretor status of their mothers for human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) such as 2’-fucosyllactose (2’-FL), as well as birth mode. Microbiota is compromised in caesarean-born infants of non-secretor mothers, potentially leading to increased risk of allergic diseases, and this group may benefit from corrective supplementation such as with bifidobacteria and 2’-FL.

Oral immunotherapy using partially hydrolyzed formula for cow’s milk protein allergy (NEW!)

This randomized controlled trial found that oral immunotherapy with hydrolyzed cow’s milk protein-based formula (pHF) may safely enhance tolerance to cow’s milk in children with cow’s milk allergy (CMPA), suggesting it may be a potential therapeutic strategy for this group.
